Memorial Scholarships

The Cleveland Touchdown Club Charities is pleased to announce the continuation of the John Peyton and Margaret Twohig Memorial Scholarships. John Peyton was a two-time past President of the Cleveland Touchdown Club and had been actively involved in the Cleveland Baseball Federation and Cleveland Cavalier Rebounders organization. He unselfishly devoted countless volunteer hours to these and other organizations, continually promoting youth services. In high school, John did not play any team sports; however, he demonstrated his spirit and desire to help by acting as the manager of many of the high school sports teams. He passed away in 2000.

Margaret Twohig Memorial Scholarships are sponsored by her son and long-time Cleveland Touchdown Club Charities supporter, Mark Twohig. Mark’s mother was a loving and caring person, yet strong-willed and a tireless worker, who valued education and sharing her good fortunes with others.

The applicant must be a graduating high school senior and show need and merit to be considered for a scholarship. In addition, the applicant must have participated in his or her high school athletic team programs in a non-athletic manner (i.e. team manager, statistician, cheerleader, sports writer, team booster, etc.).

The minimum scholarship award will be $500; the maximum award will be $2,000. Last year, two $1,500 scholarships and three $1,000 were awarded. The applicant may choose the accredited college or university of his or her choice. The scholarships will be awarded for the 2011 – 2012 academic year, with classes beginning on or around August 2011.
